16 Hour Continuing Education Class

Party Hair
We love this knotted look. It’s really easy to do on thicker
hair, as it is a loose braid taken to one side of the head.
Send some of your favorite looks to yournccosmetologyce@gmail.com. Make sure to include your name and e-mail
address along with your pictures. We are giving an 8 hour class to the editors
pick.

Salon Straightener
Curls are making a big comeback, but straightening treatments are still very popular. The model seen in this picture has been given a keratin treatment. Keratin is popular because it has the ability to make the hair very straight, giving back the luster and shine the hair once had and unlike other straightening treatments, it may be used on colored or decolorized hair.
What are you using in your salon? We would like your
feedback. What kind of problems have you encountered? What makes the straightener
your straightener of choice?

Stylist For Hire
As a salon professional, what do you look for when selecting the
business that you want to be a part of? Lets assume you are an
established Stylist or Nail Tech, etc. Do the people whom you will be
working with mean the most to you? Is it the location of the salon? What
about "Will I be able to grow more in this establishment?"
What about smaller wants, like a color bar for the colorist or a large selection of retail for your clients to choose from. Mabe it is even a particular line of retail you desire.
How do you find this business? Do you go on 'word of mouth'? Do you access the want ads? How about the internet?

Politics In The Salon
Remember way back in Beauty School when Mrs. Jones said "never discuss religion, politics, or sex in the salon!" Well Mrs. Jones wasn't just blowing hot air.
I try to stay away from these subjects, but this election year I have found more than ever people are picking you for your opinion. I try to change the subject, but when that doesn't work I simply agree with the client. When it comes to politics, I have found People are so passionate, I fear they will leave you over your choice in Presidents faster than giving them a chemical hair cut! A friend of mine claims she has voted for both candidates at least 50 times!
I am in this business because I enjoy the interaction with people, and making them feel good. I don't want them to leave feeling frustrated and mad, even if their hair looks good.
Other stylists in our salon have voiced concern about this subject. How do you handle this situation?
